Why the house works for working weeks
We opened Fyonli Nest, our two-bedroom home in Dehradun, in 2025. These are the parts of it that matter when you’re staying long enough to work:
- Fast Wi-Fi and a desk for work. If your job runs on video calls, ask us for a speed test before you book. There’s more on that under what to ask us before you book.
- Quiet after 10 pm. It’s a house rule, because the neighbours are early risers. That suits anyone with an early call.
- Heaters in winter. December and January nights in Dehradun are cold, and you’ll want a warm room to work in.
- A full kitchen. Over a month you’ll want to cook your own meals rather than eat out every day. On mornings you’d rather not, there’s a pahadi breakfast on request: mandua roti, aloo and seasonal fruit, ₹350 per guest per morning. Tell us the night before.
- Two bedrooms. The green room and the red room each have a king bed. If two of you are working, you can take a room each for calls.
- Somewhere to step away from the screen. A living room with an indigo arch and a wooden sofa, and a courtyard that catches the morning sun. No smoking indoors; if you smoke, the courtyard is yours.
- Parking in the courtyard, if you’re driving up with your own car for the month.
We live ten minutes away and meet guests at the gate, so on a long stay we’re never far off.

Weekly and monthly stays
Ask us for weekly and monthly rates. Send us your dates on WhatsApp with how many of you are coming, and we’ll reply with the rate for your stay.
This is how booking works. If you’re staying a month, ask us whether any of it changes for a longer stay.
- Send your dates on WhatsApp, or use the request form on our stay page. We confirm availability on WhatsApp.
- No payment until we confirm. Cancellation is free until 7 days before arrival.
- Check-in is from 2 pm and check-out by 11 am. If you’re early, message us and wait in the courtyard.
- The house sleeps 4 adults, or up to 6 guests with children aged 2–12.
- Dogs are welcome; tell us beforehand. Our page on bringing your dog has the details.
Working through December? Christmas Day falls on Friday 25 December and New Year’s Day 2027 on Friday 1 January. If your month runs across them, send your dates early.
What to ask us before you book
A month is a bigger decision than a weekend. These are the questions worth asking us on WhatsApp first. We’d rather you ask now than arrive and find something doesn’t work for you.
- “Can you send a Wi-Fi speed test from the house?” We call the Wi-Fi fast, but your calls and uploads are what count. Ask for a screenshot of a test.
- “What happens in a power cut?” Ask how cuts are handled at the house, and what happens to the Wi-Fi when the power goes.
- “How do cleaning and fresh linen work on a long stay?” Ask how often the house is cleaned and the linen changed, and what you’d be expected to do yourself.
- “Where is the desk, and is there a second place to work?” Worth asking if two of you will be on calls at the same time.
- “How does laundry work over a month?”
- “Where exactly is the house?” Tell us the places you’ll need to get to, like an office, a gym or a school, and we’ll tell you how long it takes.
- “What’s the weekly or monthly rate for my dates?”
- “Does anything change for a long stay?” Ask whether payment, cancellation or bills like electricity work differently over a month, and whether there’s a minimum or maximum stay.
Living in Dehradun for a few weeks
Dehradun is Uttarakhand’s most populous city and its winter capital. It sits in the Doon, the valley between the Shivalik hills and the Himalaya. For a working month, the practical questions are the weather and how you get in and out.
The seasons
| Season | Months | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Winter | December to February | January is the coldest month. Lows sit around 6 °C from late December to the end of January, with highs around 19 °C, and on a few days it can drop to 1–2 °C. Mist or fog on some mornings, sometimes frost, and bright, sunny days. |
| Summer | March to May | Dry and getting hotter. Highs climb from about 23 °C in early March to about 35 °C by the end of April and around 36 °C in May. Thunderstorms and hail are part of the season. |
| Monsoon | June to September | Pre-monsoon showers start in mid-June and the monsoon arrives, on average, near the end of the month. July and August are the wettest months. |
| Post-monsoon | October and November | Temperatures fall sharply from October. November is the driest month of the year. |
The table uses the India Meteorological Department’s averages for 1971–2010. Fog days in Dehradun itself are few, but IMD notes that dense, prolonged fog in winter can disrupt air, rail and road traffic, so leave some slack on travel days in December and January. Our guide to Dehradun in winter has more.
The city as a base
Dehradun railway station is the end of the line, with the Shatabdi and the Jan Shatabdi running daily to New Delhi. Jolly Grant Airport, also called Dehradun Airport, is south of the city, about 20 km from Rishikesh and 35 km from Haridwar, with flights to Delhi, Mumbai and other cities. If you’re planning a workation in Uttarakhand, that makes Dehradun a practical place to do it from: easy to get to, with the hills close by.
For days off, Mussoorie is up the hill. If you’re weighing the hills against the valley, read our guide Dehradun or Mussoorie.
Staying through the monsoon
We won’t pretend the monsoon is a footnote here. The India Meteorological Department calls Dehradun “one of the rainiest capital cities of India”. Dehradun gets more than 2,000 mm of rain in an average year, and most of it falls between June and September.
On average the monsoon reaches Dehradun around 28 June and withdraws around 26 September, but the dates move a lot from year to year. July and August are the wettest months, with about 20 and 21 rainy days on average.
Hill roads and landslides
Heavy rain brings landslides and road closures in the hills. When we checked on 1 October 2026, the state Public Works Department’s road-closure dashboard listed 2,357 roads closed at some point since 1 April, across all 13 districts. Of those, 2,301 had reopened, 14 were partly open and 42 were still closed.
The road from Dehradun up to Mussoorie can be one of them. On 16 September 2025, cloudbursts and heavy rain breached it at several points. It stayed shut for a second day, about 2,500 tourists were stuck in Mussoorie, and police asked people to stay where they were until it reopened. The same week, torrential rain damaged roads and shops in the Sahastradhara area of Dehradun.
How we’d plan a monsoon month
- Keep your working days at the house and your trips flexible. A day in Mussoorie can wait for a dry morning.
- Check road status before you drive into the hills. The PWD’s road-closure dashboard lists closed and reopened roads by district. It’s the “Road Status” link on the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority site.
- Check the forecast and warnings from the IMD Meteorological Centre in Dehradun, which publishes district forecasts and warnings.
- If you have a flight or a train to catch, don’t plan a trip into the hills the day before.
- Save the numbers: 112 for emergency services, 1070 for the State Emergency Operation Centre and 1077 for the district emergency operation centres.
- Ask us about power cuts in heavy rain before you book.
If the weather causes trouble at the house, message us. We live ten minutes away.
