We are Shalini and Aarushi, two friends from Dehradun who host guests at Fyonli Nest. Guests often ask us the same questions: what a ticket costs, when a place opens, whether a road is clear. The guides on this site are our written answers. A wrong answer can cost you a wasted drive, so we’d rather show our working than sound sure.
Sources sit next to the facts
Anything likely to change, like a fee, an opening time, a date or a rule, goes in a fact box. Each line in a fact box names its source, links to it, and says the date we last checked it. If a line says “checked 1 Nov 2026”, that is the day one of us opened that page and read the number ourselves.
When two sources disagree, we pick in this order:
- A dated official notice, such as a government order, a district circular or a ticketing notice.
- An official page run by the department, park, institute or railway concerned.
- Recent press, from a news report less than six months old.
Travel aggregators and listing sites never stand alone. We may use one as a lead, but a number only goes on the page once an official source or recent report backs it up. If sources still conflict, we say so in the fact box, say which one we trust and why, and leave it to you. If we can’t source a value at all, we leave it out rather than guess.
Sources we use on most pages
- Weather and warnings
- IMD’s Meteorological Centre, Dehradun posts current weather, district warnings, and the day’s sunrise and sunset times. We use it for weather and daylight lines on every guide.IMD Dehradun, checked 1 Nov 2026
- Emergency numbers
- State Emergency Operation Centre: 1070. District Emergency Operation Centres: 1077. Police, fire, ambulance and disaster response: 112.Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority, checked 1 Nov 2026
- District helplines
- Police control room: 100. Fire brigade: 101. Child helpline: 1098. Women’s helpline: 1800 180 4111.District Dehradun (official site), checked 1 Nov 2026
How often we re-check
Every fact box shows when it was last checked. Here is how long we let each kind of fact go before we check it again. The page’s “Updated” date at the top changes whenever we do.
| Kind of fact | Re-checked | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Safety notices and closures | About every 30 days in the monsoon and snow months, every 90 days otherwise | Roads, trails and water levels change fastest, and these are the facts that matter most if they are wrong. |
| Fees and timings | Every 90 days | Ticket prices and opening hours change a few times a year, often without notice on aggregator sites. |
| Event dates | Every time, before the event | A parade or festival date is only useful once it is officially announced, so we check it each time we mention it. |
| History and distances | Once a year | These rarely change, but road works and new bypasses can shift a distance. |
On safety, we don’t tell you a place is safe or open. We write “As of (date), (the official source) said…” and link to the place where you can check it live. Our guide to checking roads and weather lists those places.
How we measure distances
Distances on this site are measured from a fixed point everyone can find: the Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar), the ISBT bus terminal or Dehradun railway station. We round them to the nearest 5 km and say when we measured. We don’t measure from our own house, because your day might start anywhere in the city, and a number from the Clock Tower is one you can check on any map.
What we don’t publish
- Cab and taxi fares. They change with fuel prices, the app, the hour and the season. Any number we printed would be wrong within weeks.
- Train, bus and flight departure times. We name trains by number and send you to NTES for live running and to IRCTC for bookings. Timetables move; those two sites move with them.
- Named cafés, restaurants and hotels. Places open, close and change hands. Ask us on WhatsApp during your stay and we’ll share the ones we know are still running.
What we add as hosts
Official sources tell you the fee and the hours. They don’t tell you which two places pair well in one morning, or which stop you can skip if the day is short. That part is our own advice, as hosts from Dehradun, and we mark it as advice, not fact. On Instagram we put it as wanting to help guests “experience the best of local places” (the hosts, @thefyonlinest). If you’d like that advice for your own dates, see the home and how a stay works.
Corrections
If something on a page doesn’t match what you found on the ground, please tell us. Send the page, what you saw and when: message us on WhatsApp at +91 97627 26246, or email thefyonlinest@gmail.com. We check it against the official source, fix the page if we were wrong, and note the change in the page’s updates.
